Let us tell you a bit about the opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Credit Manager to join our Credit Underwriting team, supporting responsible lending across our property portfolio.

Reporting to the Head of Credit – CRE, you’ll assess and approve new lending applications alongside in-life client reviews and requests. You’ll play an important role in ensuring lending decisions align with our credit risk appetite, policy and delegated authority, while acting as a trusted adviser to colleagues across Credit, Risk and our customer-facing lending teams.

This is an opportunity to work on a broad range of property transactions, including high-value and complex cases, while helping us continually improve our lending decisions, risk management and service quality.

What will your day look like?

  • Assessing and sanctioning new residential Buy-to-Let lending transactions in line with credit policy, delegated authority and agreed service levels.
  • Reviewing and approving annual in-life reviews and ad hoc requests.
  • Analysing property transactions across a broad range of values and structures.
  • Structuring complex lending proposals and, where appropriate, presenting recommendations to the Head of Credit.
  • Providing constructive challenge and guidance to customer-facing lending teams.
  • Coaching and mentoring colleagues to strengthen credit knowledge and improve the quality of lending decisions.
  • Providing second-line oversight of lending application data and supporting colleagues with IPRE slotting.
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of lending policy, credit controls and loss-management approaches.
  • Supporting month-end reporting, project activity and wider underwriting priorities.
  • Building effective relationships with senior stakeholders across first- and second-line teams.

What do we expect from you?

  • Strong credit underwriting experience gained within property, real estate or a comparable lending environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of property transactions and whole-life-cycle risk management.
  • Experience of assessing high-value or complex lending structures, ideally within Commercial Real Estate.
  • Confidence making balanced, evidence-based lending decisions within a delegated mandate.
  • The ability to interpret credit policy, identify conduct and operational risks, and recommend appropriate mitigations.
  • A demonstrable track record of improving credit quality, decision-making or lending processes.
  • Strong stakeholder-management skills, with the credibility to challenge, influence and advise senior colleagues.
  • A collaborative approach, with experience of coaching, mentoring or sharing technical knowledge.
  • A proactive, self-starting mindset and a strong commitment to team delivery.
  • An ACIB qualification, relevant degree or CeMAP qualification would be desirable but is not essential.
